On Monday, November 30th Brooklyn, NY based American Soul singer/songwriter Kevin Garrett stopped by Lava Room Recording to track piano and vocals. Originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area Kevin Garrett has been making great strides in his career being signed to the publishing and management division of Jay-Z’s label, Roc Nation. This has allowed Kevin to showcase his lyricism and musicianship in numerous projects over the past several years. Kevin has shared stages with James Vincent McMorrow, Emily King, Norah Jones, and most recently the X Ambassadors and Skylar Grey.
His versatility as a songwriter is prevalent in his song “Coloring” which earned considerable attention having been featured on several official Spotify playlists. His debut EP Mellow Drama which was released in April has also received critical acclaim from several media sources. Much excitement surrounds his newly released single, “Refuse” which has allowed him to stay fresh and unique in the anticipation of his projects to come. Kevin is preparing for a busy 2016 with dates already lined up with Alessia Cara on her North American Tour while also preparing a full length LP.
Lava Room Recording was thrilled to host Kevin in the studio this past Monday. Brad Puette, one of Lava Room Recording’s skilled engineers worked with Kevin during his 6 hour session in Studio A. Kevin used the studio’s beautiful 1922 Steinway to track piano accompaniment for some of his new music. He also tracked vocals for an upcoming project and even switched up his style to sing over some produced tracks. 
The main project of the session involved a video and audio recording of his performance of “This Christmas” that will be out this Holiday Season!
Kevin invited along Will Blake, the managing director for The Cue Brand, a local Cleveland area media company that focuses on blending creativity with elegant vibes as well as their crew that consisted of Will Blake, Stacee Starr, Denzel Washington, and Ashton Blake to record his holiday cover. Kevin seemed very comfortable in the studio setting at the Lava Room and stayed very focused throughout which was evident because he did not stop to break during the entire session. Kevin was gracious to give Lava Room Recording a testimonial of his experience. He was appreciative to see such a large studio so close to home that produces professional quality work.
